What is BIWAQ?

BIWAQ stands for Education, economy, work in the neighborhood and is a federal ESF program of the Federal Ministry of Housing, Urban Development and Building (BMWSB). BIWAQ uses funding from the European Social Fund (ESF) and the BMWSB to improve the opportunities of residents in Districts with great development potential.

In the current funding period (BIWAQ V), the aim is to Employability of the long-term unemployed and people with a migration background. The focus here is primarily on the construction industry, skilled trades, gastronomy and household-related services.

BIWAQ pursues the following goals:

Integration into employment

Support in taking up new employment
Offers for further qualification

Strengthening the local economy

Networking and strengthening local companies
Empowering participants to become independent through cooperation

Digitalization and sustainability are important issues for all objectives.

Back in the industry of your choice

After a long and often frustrating job search, one participant in the project finally found his way back into his dream industry - the catering trade. Thanks to individual advice and practical support from BIWAQ, he was able to start working as a kitchen assistant in a renowned restaurant in Schwäbisch Gmünd.

Work and family in harmony

Another participant - a mother of three children - faced the challenge of reconciling family and career. Through BIWAQ, she found a job in the production department of a local textile company. The job is not only varied, but is also easy to combine with everyday family life.
